A new label after improving your home
An existing label does not change when you improve the property. A new assessment is what records the improvement.
Why the old label stays as it is
An energy label describes the property as it was at the time of assessment. Adding insulation, replacing glazing or installing a heat pump does not update it. The label only changes when a new assessment is carried out and registered.
When it is worth it
Usually when you are about to sell or let, and when the work is substantial enough to move the result. Roof, wall or floor insulation, replacing single glazing, a heat pump or a significant number of solar panels are the changes that tend to matter most.
Keep your paperwork
This is where owners lose most. Invoices that state the material and thickness of insulation, photographs taken before the work was covered up, and product details of glazing and installations all allow the real situation to be counted. Without them, cautious default values apply and your improvement may not show up at all.
