How long a Dutch energy label is valid
Ten years from the date of registration. Simple in principle, with a few consequences worth knowing.
The ten-year rule
A registered Dutch energy label is valid for ten years from its registration date, not from the date of the visit or the date you received it. After that it expires and a new assessment is needed.
Renovation does not extend or update it
If you insulate the roof or install a heat pump, the existing label stays exactly as it was until a new assessment is registered. That is worth remembering if you are about to sell an improved home with an old, unflattering label attached to it.
Labels transfer with the property
A label belongs to the property, not to the owner. When you buy a Dutch home with a valid label, that label remains valid for the remainder of its ten years.
